The protesters identified themselves as the Occupy National Assembly (Occupy NASS), made up of members of various Civil Society Organisations and students, were also asking lawmakers to revisit some of the grey areas identified in the budget by President Muhammadu Buhari. They had earlier in the day visited various radio houses asking people to rally at the Unity Fountain for a match to National Assembly.

They group also demanded that senators who had collected their luxury SUVs should return them or face the wrath of Nigerians.

The protesters forced their way into the main gate of the National Assembly and prevented staff and lawmakers from entering or leaving the premises.

They vowed to make the protest a permanent one if their demands are not met.

Saraki is facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for corruption and false declaration of Assets and has so far rejected calls for him to step down.
