The Slide in Nigerian football to Continue under Coach Gernot Rohr

FIFA and CAF’s former executive member Dr Amos Adamu has states categorically that the slide in Nigerian football will continue under the charge of German coach Gernot Rohr.

Dr Adamu, a former sole administrator of the NFF slammed the appointment of Gernot Rohr, 63, who was earlier in the month unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the new coach of the Super Eagles on $47,000 (about N18.8m) monthly pay.

“He does not have the pedigree, I don’t know him. For now, we do not have a coach. He will just damage us and then he will leave.”

While questioning the screening process for hiring the Eagles coach, Adamu lamented the deplorable state of Nigerian football, calling on NFF boss Amaju Pinnick to take full responsibility, Vanguard writes.

“He should take responsibility for his actions, but it won’t happen. Who will enforce? Who is in that ministry to enforce it?,” he queried.

“We are also suffering from a culture of poverty and so people asking for him to resign will be bought over and before you know it, they will be singing a different song.”

Rohr will for the first time be incharge of the Eagles  on September 3 when the Super Eagles take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in an Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2017 qualification tie that is of no significance with Nigeria already out.

The German has been tasked with ensuring the Eagles come out of a tough Fifa 2018 World Cup qualifying group that also features Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia.
