Saraki and Ekweremadu forgery Trial Postponed

The trial of Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu and two others at a Federal High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja has been postponed due to the annual vacation of judicial workers.

The leaders of the Senate, Saraki and Ekweremadu had to go back after turning up at the court for Monday’s scheduled hearing until September.

Both leaders of the Red Chamber, along with a former clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa and the Deputy clerk, Benedict Efeturi are facing a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and forgery of the senate standing rule‎s, 2015. All four accused persons were granted bail June 27 by presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu.

However, the court did not sit today owing to the recess, which is expected to last till September according to a Daily Post source.

“As you can see, the accused persons just arrived but the matter will not be coming up today because the court is on recess,” .

“The accused persons will come back later for a date on when the trial will resume but that will be after the judicial vacation which will end sometime in September” he added.

The source further stated that the court has fixed September 28, 2016 for continuation of trials.
