Sanusi Strips Predecessor’s Eldest Son of Chiroma Title

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II has striped his predecessor’s eldest son, Sanusi Ado Bayero of his Chiroma title.

According to Reports from Kano, His Royal Highness, Sanusi II has issued a decree to that effect.

The Chiroman Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero is the eldest son of late emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero who lost to the reigning emir June 8th, 2014 in a succession dispute which was heavily contested.

A press statement on Wednesday evening signed by the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi , revealed that Sanusi Ado Bayero was stripped of his title as a prominent member of the Kano emirate council close to the emir over his alleged recalcitrant posture of refusing to pay homage to the new emir as ordained by the teaching of Sharia .

“It was the provision of the Sharia law and custom that had compelled every member of the Kano emirate council to be loyal to the new king with the demise of the incumbent, stressing that God in his infinite wisdom gives power to whomsoever He wishes and takes it away from anyone He so wishes”.

According to reports, Bayero has not been playing his role as the Chiroman.

Bayero was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) by the Jonathan administration shortly before he left power.

President Muhammadu Buhari fired him recently from that position.

He was the Chiroman Kano and District Head of Gwale, was reported to have been favoured by the Jonathan presidency to take over the Emir’s seat in Kano following the death of his father. However, the kingmakers chose former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was at the time at loggerheads with the presidency over an allegedly missing oil revenue.
