Pressure on Rohr to drop Ighalo and Ideye for Iheanacho
Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles Head coach is reportedly under intense pressure to drop Watford striker Odion Ighalo and his Greece based counterpart, Brown Ideye as Super Eagles top strikers.
According to Vanguard reports, the German technical adviser is being talked into giving that role to Manchester City starlet and rave of the moment, Kelechi Iheanacho.
The 19 year old Iheanacho has been in the form of his life, having scored three goals in the last three matches, including a screamer against Tanzania, and ‘pundits’ with access to the German are reportedly leaning on him to make prodigious forward his leading man in attack.
A close associate of Rohr confirmed that the coaching crew have held talks in that regard as they look to end the Eagles’ scoring problems.
“I can’t categorically say it will happen but I can confirm to you that talks have been held and the prospect of Iheanacho leading the line against Zambia is a possibility,” he said.
“Talks didn’t start because of his recent goal scoring form, not at all. It started since after the Tanzania game. Rohr is a big fan of his finishing abilities right from the training ground. He could lead the line ahead of Igahlo and Ideye in Ndola when we play Zambia in October”.
The Super Eagles takes on Zambia October 9 as the final round of qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup kicks off.
