Power Situation in Abuja and Lagos to Worsen as Militants Blow up Pipelines

After 24 hours Chevron was forced to close it’s operations in Escravos, Delta State, following its Valve Platform coming under attack by Niger Delta militants who label themselves Niger Delta Avengers. The millants have blown up a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) crude oil pipeline supplying the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

According to the Cable, the pipelines that came under attack today were recently repaired by the federal government after they were vandalised in a previous attack.

The militants have also hit an oil flow station feeding the Chevron Tank farm in Warri and gas line that feeds Lagos and Abuja electricity plants.

Friday’s attacks are expected to worsen the already shortage of power supply in both cities.

Though nobody has claimed responsibility for today’s attacks, a new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers claimed responsibility for the the attack on the Valve Platform in the wee hours of yesterday.

While claiming responsibility for the attack, the group called the bluff of the government, saying they cannot be stopped from carrying out attacks on oil installations in the area.

President Buhari had vowed to deal with pipeline vandal like Boko Haram militants if they did not desist from sabotaging oil facilities in the region.
