Nigeria’s U17 Crash out of World Cup Qualifiers in Niger
The disaster hitting Nigeria’s sports has found its way to the U17 as the Golden Eaglets will not be at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup after they were eliminated in the African qualification campaign on Saturday.
The Manu Garba-led boys lost 3-1 to Niger in Niamey in the second leg of their Africa U-17 Cup of Nations qualifier, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate loss following their 1-0 lead from the first leg in Abuja.
Coach Manu Garba who led the class of 2013 of the Golden Eaglets to glory in the United Arab Emirates, had said ahead of the tie, that his boys had the advantage despite their slim victory in Abuja eight days ago.
Th Niger side proved superior in Niamey with a comfortable 3-1 win, despite both sides being level at half-time with the added benefit of an away goal for the Golden Eaglets.
Earlier this year, the senior national team, the Super Eagles were bundled out of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Gabon, their third Afcon absence in four events.
