Nigeria’s Super Eagles Move up in Fifa World Rankings

Nigeria reached their best ranking this year after back-to-back wins in international friendly matches played over the past week.

The three-time African champions defeated West African neighbours Mali 1-0 in a friendly played in Rouen, France, last Friday, before taming the Red Lions of Luxembourg 3-1 four days later.

The Salisu Yusuf-led team also moved up two places on the continent to 12th, coming in behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Congo DR, Guinea, Cameroon and Congo.

A change was recorded in the top five ranked sides in the world as Lionel Messi’s Argentina retains top spot ahead of Belgium, though Colombia and World champions Germany have pushed Copa America holders Chile down to fifth.

The next Fifa world ranking will be released July 7.
