Nigerians React to FG Increase price of PMS
The Federal Government has finally removed subsidy from the sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol effective May 11, Vanguard reports.
Dr Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum and NNPC DG, had on Monday hinted at deregulation of the downstream sector in the industry with the pump price to be jerked up to a new price band.
Consequently, NNPC sources on Wednesday said marketers are now free to bring in cargoes and sell, subject to meeting in-built standard quality control.
It however added that a benchmark of N145 per litre, as a recommended pump price, at which any trader, irrespective of the source of foreign exchange used to import cargo is guaranteed adequate profit.
