NFF Rules out Salisu Yusuf for Super Eagles Job

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have assured that interim handler Salisu Yusuf will work with a foreign coach with the purpose of understudying him even after he’s repeatedly spoken of his desire to land the job and he was shortlisted amongst the top 3 for the job on Friday.

Yusuf, 54, has served as assistant coach to Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh and Samson Siasia, and feels it’s time he led the Super Eagles given the wealth of experience he’s acquired, Vanguard reports.

The former Kano Pillars and Enyimba coach was on the NFF’s three-man shortlist for the Eagles job, but according to sources, the Glass House will on July 18, 2016 consider either Paul Le Guen or Tom Saintfiet for the top job, while also getting Yusuf on board but as chief coach with a renegotiated contract and more responsibilities.

“The officials want Salisu to work with the foreign coach, not under him. He will understudy the new man with the plan to take over the team thereafter,” an official said.

“They hope they can get him to agree this new arrangement especially as he will bring continuity to the team having worked with most of the country’s players for more than a year.

“He will also be given more responsibilities, like heading the home-based Eagles, which as assistant Eagles coach, he did not enjoy. And all his unpaid salaries will also be cleared.”

 Nigeria will face former African champions Algeria, Zambia and Cameroon for a ticket to participate at the Russia 2018 World Cup.
