Man die in Fire at Abia PDP chairmanship primaries

One person has been killed during Wednesday’s chairmanship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state according to the Police in Abia Command.

Ogbonnaya Nta, spokesman for the Command disclosed this on Thursday as he said the deceased, identified simply as Onyemaechi was killed when aggrieved delegates allegedly set fire to the office of the Chairman of Isialangwa North Local Government, venue of the election.

According to eyewitnesses say the violence broke out when some members alleged that the list was “doctored” in favour of a particular candidate.

In the midst of the crisis, “somebody sneaked into the chairman’s office with a jerry can of petrol and set the place ablaze,” the witness said.

Three other persons sustained burns, as the police say they are investigating the matter.
