Lassa Fever Outbreak Hits Abuja, 1 Dead Reported

There has been an outbreak of the Lassa fever in the FCT. The outbreak of the dreaded hemorrhage fever happened in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Federal Government announced on Wednesday that a patient died from the fever at the National Hospital Abuja.

A Private hospital in Kubwa had admitted the patient for eight days and he was brought into National Hospital reportedly unconscious, from the private hospital.

During a visit to the National Hospital, Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, called on health workers at all levels “to be more vigilant and look out for patients with symptoms of Lassa fever.”

Boade Akinola, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Federal Ministry of Health released a statement saying that the minister has instructed that ‘all primary and secondary contacts of the victim should be tracked’.

The Minister urged Abuja residents against panicking, advising them to ‘maintain high level vigilance and present themselves for test if they feel unhealthy or they feel symptoms of Lassa fever’.

Symptoms of Lassa fever includes high fever, stooling, tiredness and vomiting adding that self-medication should be avoided at this
