Enyimba International Club of Aba, Nigerian champions have been drawn in the “group of death” alongside Zamalek, ES Setif and Mamelodi Sundowns in the Caf Champions League group phase.

This will be the first appearance for a Nigerian club in the group stage of Caf’s premier club competition since Sunshine Stars in 2012. The People’s Elephant will battle it out against two former winners in Zamalek and ES Setif while South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns is the only team in the group which have not lifted Africa’s most prestigious clubside trophy.

Egyptian giants, Zamalek have won the Caf Champions League five times in 1984, 1986, 1993, 1996 and 2002, while Algerian bigwigs Setif were champions twice in 1988 and 2014.

Two-time champions Enyimba will be making their seventh appearance in the money-spinning competition, and have promised to repeat their heroics of 2003 and 2004 where they became the first Nigerian side to lift the trophy.

South African side Sundowns are the only side in Group B yet to win the title but they featured in the 2001 final where they lost on a 1-4 aggregate score to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The group phase games commence on June 17.
