Diepreye Alamieyeseigha Dies in Port Harcourt

The first elected Governor of Bayelsa state, Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is dead, according to a report by Leadership Newspapers.

DSP Alamieyeseigha is reported to have died at a private hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers
State.

The former governor had reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in the week.

According to Channels Television reports, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Esueme Dan-Kikili, confirmed that Alamieyeseigha died of cardiac arrest on Saturday.

He slipped into a coma two days ago and had been placed on life support since then.

Alamieyeseigha, who recently returned from Dubai, is wanted in the United Kingdom for charges of corruption and money laundering.

The government of the United Kingdom had recently requested for his extradition to answer to the charges.

Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was succeeded by Nigeria’s immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan as Governor.
