Cameroon’s President Paul Biya to Arrive Nigeria for 2-day State Visit

Cameroon’s President Paul Biya of Cameroon is expected to arrive Nigeria today for a 2-day state visit on the invitation of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The francophone neighbour is considered a strategic ally to Nigeria in the quest to combat terrorist group, Boko Haram which has for some years operated out of bases in northern Nigeria and northern Cameroon, wreaking havoc along the border towns of both countries.

The Nigerian presidency has disclosed that President Biya’s visit will present an opportunity for the Cameroonian president to confer with President Buhari on issues of common interest including cross-border crimes and insurgency.

New agreements to strengthen economic cooperation between Nigeria and Cameroon are also expected to be concluded and signed during the visit.

President Biya will depart Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja for his country on Wednesday, May 4th.

President Buhari had in July 2015 paid a state visit to Cameroon where he discussed regional efforts to combat Boko Haram and was hosted to a state banquet by the Cameroonian government.

Cameroon contributes troops to a multinational joint task force set up for counter-insurgency operations in the Chad region and has been actively fighting Boko Haram in recent months.

President Paul Biya of Cameroon will, at the invitation of President Buhari, begin a two-day state visit to Nigeria tomorrow.
