The African football regulatory body Confederation of African Football (Caf) has punished Nigeria for the overcrowding of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna during the March 25 clash against Egypt, Goal reports.

According to a statement by Caf released Monday, it said the decision was one of many reached during it s disciplinary committee meeting held last month (April 18).

A mammoth 40,000 fans filled the 25,000-capacity arena, with spectators almost reaching the playing area and hanging off the scoreboards and security lights after the Kaduna state government threw gates open in support of the Super Eagles.

Fortunately, there was no major incident on the night as the lives of thousands would have been endangered seeing as the security deemed fit to allow only one entry to the grounds.
