Aisha Buhari demands probe of State House Medical Centre

Aisha Buhari, wife of the President has demanded that a probe should be launched into how the budget for the State House Medical Centre (SHMC) is being used.

Aisha Buhari’s demand comes after she visited the centre only to be confronted with a lack of facilities and requisite personnel.

While speaking at the opening of a two-day Stakeholders meeting on RMNCAH+N – Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition in Abuja, Aisha Buhari decried the “lack of facilities”, including syringes, at the centre despite the huge budgetary allocation and ongoing construction there.

According to Channels, She stated clearly that monies budgeted for the hospital must be accounted for to prevent a catastrophe at the clinic.

“Few weeks ago I was sick as well, they advised me to take the first flight out to London I refused to go. I said I must be treated in Nigeria because there is a budget for an assigned clinic to take care of us.

“If the budget is N100 million, we need to know how the budget is spent. Along the line I insisted they call Aso Clinic to find out if the X-tray machine is working, They said it is not working. They didn’t know I am the one that was supposed to be in that hospital at that very time,”.

Last week, patients at the State House Clinic took to various platforms to show their disapproval of the deplorable state of facilities there.

Mrs Buhari’s call for a probe comes after Zahra Buhari called out the clinic as not having simple drugs, and diverting its budgetary allocation.

In the wake of the complaints, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Mr Jalal Arabi, promised that the SHMC would be repositioned for better service delivery.
