Nigerian Refineries Producing 6.7m Litres, to Hit 10m Next Month

According to reports, Nigerian refineries now produce over 6.7 million litres of petrol in a day. This comes as the federal government keeps putting effort at improving the country’s crude oil refining capacity and reduce the volume of importation of petroleum products.

Yesterday, an announcement was made by the NNPC that the refineries in Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri have started producing over 6.76 million litres of petrol daily.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, made the announcement in a statement by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ohi Alegbe.

A breakdown of petrol yield from the plants indicates that Port Harcourt Refinery, which was re-streamed a week earlier, is producing some 4.09 million litres, while the Kaduna Refinery is contributing some 1.29 million litres.

Warri refinery, which has been shut since August for repairs, roared back to life on Sunday and is contributing 1.38 million litres.

The NNPC said petrol yield from the refineries is projected to increase to over 10m litres per day by the end of January 2016.

The Corporation also confirmed that the PMS volumes from the refineries, which are currently operating at an appreciable percentage of their nameplate capacities, will help stabilize the fuel supply and distribution situation in the country.

The Nigerian refineries, largely underutilized due to maintenance issues, have a combined capacity of 445,000 barrels per day (bpd).
