The festival organisation has recently transited into the care of a registered trust, a Not-for-Profit organisation managed by the Board of Directors. The festival was conceived and launched in 2013 as a fringe festival by the United Kingdom’s cultural organisation, British Council in response to their inspiration to provide a platform for theatre makers in Nigeria, to develop audiences for theatre productions and to produce theatre works for unconventional spaces.

The Board of Directors of Lagos Theatre Festival Foundation iterate the continued dedication of the festival to promoting theatre in Nigeria and encouraging theatre makers to create experimental productions that can be situated in different theatre spaces – traditional and non-traditional, in line with the laudable precedence that has been set by the founders of the festival, British Council.
