(Watch) Worshippers Killed As Gunmen Invade Church
In Ozubulu, Anambra state, scores of worshipers at a Catholic church were reportedly killed by gunmen who stormed the church during today’s Mass service.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack cane as a surprise as thry say that there was no indication that an attack was coming and St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ugwu Oye in Ozubulu, Anambra State, is not sited on a disputed land, the most common source of conflict in that part of Nigeria.
The cathlic church, consecrated about two years ago by the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, Most Rev Dr Odili Okeke, is said to have been solely financed by Chief Nnamdi Ikegwounwu.
The assailants reportedly fled the scene in an SUV after the killings.
The corpse of the unfortunate victims were taken to nearby Ozubulu Joint Hospital mortuary.
Online reporting suggests the incident may be tied to a conflict involving an overseas based drug mafia.
The number of wounded and dead is not known at the moment as information is still very sketchy.
