Sunderland Player Adam Johnson Gets 6 Years Jail Sentence

Adam Johnson, Sunderland football club player, has been sentenced to six years in jail by a British court for grooming and sexually abusing a 15 year old girl.

While giving his judgement, the presiding Judge, Jonathan Rose, told Johnson that he caused the girl “severe psychological harm” and abused his position of trust.

The judge said also that the girl “suffered threats and thousands of abusive remarks” on social media.

Justice Rose also said that this was “an abuse of trust – you are trusted by young fans to behave properly. She had only just turned 15 when you began grooming her, because, as you were to admit, you found her sexually attractive.

Last month, Johnson had admitted to grooming and sexual abuse of the girl. He pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual charges and was found not-guilty of another sexual assault charge.

Judge Rose also ordered Johnson to pay £50,000 of the total £67,132 spent by the prosecution in trying the case.
