An official from the Johannesburg Emergency Service also added that emergency services are currently on the scene and precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of visitors. Red tapes have been put round the Casino‚ preventing access from the Monte Casino Clinic elevators to level 4 while cleaners wearing masks appeared to be cleaning the area.
Officials say that the man doused himself with petrol inside the casino this afternoon and then set himself on fire at the entrance.
Johannesburg Emergency Service’s Nana Radebe says the man was declared dead on the scene. Even though the exact details surrounding the incident are sketchy, eyewitnesses say that the shocking incident appears to be a possible suicide.
“When the paramedics got on scene, we found someone had put petrol on himself and he was declared dead on scene. At the moment, we’re not sure what happened but found he poured petrol on himself” officials stated.
