Robbers attack Bullion Van in Plateau, Kill Policemen

bullion vanEarlier today, armed robbers attacked a convoy of bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at Hawan Kibo along Jos – Abuja expressway, killing two policemen in the process.ed by an entourage of armed mobile policemen escorts had left Jos for Abuja in the early hours of Tuesday on a road that is plagued by Checkpoints when they were ambushed by the armed robbers decked in military gear somewhere along Hawan Kibo, immediately after a military check point.

First, they killed a policeman in a patrol team belonging to the Plateau State security outfit, “Operation Rainbow” stationed in Riyom local government, before the CBN convoy ran into the mayhem whereupon the armed robbers opened fire on it.

In the ensuing shootout, a mobile policeman in the CBN convoy was shot and killed by the daredevil robbers.

The slain policeman has been identified as Sgt. Anthony Jawa, from Mobile Police Squad (MOPOL) 8, Jos, Punch reports.

While confirming the incident which reportedly occurred at about 8:30am, Police Public Relations Officer of the State’s Command, ASP Tyopev Terna, said he was yet to receive the full report from the Riyom Divisional Police station, adding that some policemen were killed, but he did not know the number.

The attacked bullion van and escort are presently being guarded at the Federal Road Safety (FRSC) office in Riyom.
