Rivers State Increase NYSC Allowance by 100%

Rivers Government has approved a 100 percent increase in the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state.

Mr Kenneth Kobani, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), told newsmen on Monday in Port Harcourt that the allowance was increased from N5,000 to N10,000. He also promised that the corps members would soon receive the new allowance.

Kobani who said they will get the funds shortly assured the Body that the state government would continue to support the NYSC in providing facilities at the permanent orientation camp. He said “the facilities are not necessarily the very best, but they are good enough and the Rivers Government will always try and improve on them.”

The SSG said the government would continue to support security agencies to ensure that the state was peaceful. He said it would be difficult to have 100 per cent security cover without cooperation from the public.

“we need concerted efforts by government and all the security agencies working together to ensure that these problems are sorted out. Of course, the general public is also part of it as well. The general public must provide information because the security agencies are not magicians.” Kobani urged the general public to always provide useful information to the security agencies to nip insecurity in the bud.
