PSP truck kill Chairmanship Aspirant in Lagos Elections

Tragedy yesterday hit Lagos as a refuse truck, commonly referred to as PSP truck, killed a chairmanship aspirant of the Ikotun/Igando Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos on the eve of local government election in the state.

Shakiru Balogun, 52, also known as SAB, for short, was a former Chairman, National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) of the LCDA and a member of the All Progressives Congress vying for elections.

Although SAB did not get the party’s blessing to be its candidate as he lost during the party primaries.

On Friday around 12 noon as he was going to the council secretariat, The driver of a PSP truck lost control and ran into his Toyota 4Runner at Okofili Bus Stop along the LASU-Isheri Road.

Fadeyi Daisi, an on the spot witness told Punch newspapers Balogun died instantly.

“The PSP driver fled the scene, but I don’t know if he was later arrested by the police. It was very tragic. The door of the sport utility vehicle was cut with a saw before emergency officials could extricate his body,”.

Joshua Ogundipe, a resident of Abu Taiwo Street, Akesan, where Balogun lived, said the incident had thrown the community into mourning.

Ogundipe said, “He accepted defeat at the primaries in good faith. He was going to the office when the incident happened. He is survived by two wives and four children. He had been buried according to Islamic rite.”

A sympathiser, Oyejobi Olakunle, said Balogun’s death was a huge loss, Punch reports.
