PowerBall NG 2016 move to Tackle Illicit Drugs in Universities with Beach Soccer
Powerball Ng 2016 is the first inter university beach soccer tournament, it is organized to strengthen the campaign against the illicit and unsafe use of drugs among the youths. Drug abuse and addiction have negative consequences for individuals and for the society.
The aim of this initiative is to utilize an aspect of sport as a tool for propagating our campaign against drug abuse.
This year’s edition would be the maiden edition of the tournament, 12 tertiary institutions have been confirmed to participate, both for fun and the prize.
The Powerball Ng 2016 is divided into two events which are the Power ball ultra-play off and the Power ball finale.
The ultra-play off is scheduled to hold on the 28th of May 2016 at the University of Lagos Indoor sport center.
The play off determines the final top 3 teams that would play the power ball finale novelty games on a date later in the year which is scheduled to hold on the beach.
Two prominent celebrity teams are scheduled to play a novelty game, also to bolster the campaign against hard drugs. These teams are team Chocolate city and team Aquila records.
There would be a mini workshop to create awareness against hard drugs between match halves and this would be hosted by-Paroche Reach-out Foundation. This event would also be filled with drama, dance, music and comedy.
Drug addiction is a preventable disease. Results from various researches have shown that prevention programs involving families, schools, communities, and the media are effective in reducing drug abuse.
