Oshiomole Dethrones Ojuromi of Uromi Anselm Eidenojie

Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Governor of Edo has dethroned the Ojuromi of Uromi, Anselm Eidenojie.

This comes days after the monarch was suspended over various infractions including allegedly assaulting a woman.

The dethronement was contained in a letter signed by the state secretary, Prof Julius Ihonbere, which was released to the press yesterday according to Punch.

The monarch had petitioned the Oshiomole led Edo government and demanded N1bn in damages over his suspension, and in response, the state government dethroned him.

The Ojuromi was previously placed on a 7-day suspension for allegedly assaulting a woman, Betty Okoebor, during the governorship election of September 27.

He was issued a query which he reportedly did not respond to, and also traveled outside of the country without express permission. Following the various infractions, he was placed on a 1-year suspension, and now has been dethroned.

Here’s what the dethronement statement said:

“Deposition from office as Ojuromi of Uromi: Addendum.

Please, be informed that the initial exco decision of October 26, 2016, has been further affirmed. Consequently, you have been deposed as the Ojuromi of Uromi, pursuant to Section 28 (1 and II) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law, 1979.”

Punch adds that not long after the news of dethronement was announced, the monarch’s loyalists took to the streets in a blaze of protests, declaring unflinching support for the Ojuromi and describing the government’s decision as unacceptable.

However, the monarch was yet to make a statement as at press time.
