Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Wants To Become Manchester United Manager Permanently

New Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he wants to land the job on a permanent basis after his sixth-month stint is over.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on loan from his Norwegian club Molde until the end of the season after he was appointed to replace the sacked Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils’s long-term target is believed to be Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino next summer, but Solskjaer admits he wants to stay with the club where he was revered as a player.

‘When you get a job like this and they ask you to sign for six months you say yes,’ admitted the 45-year-old.

‘I’m happy to help out and my job now for the next six months is to do as well as I can and move the club forward as well as I can.

‘I understand there are so many managers who would love to be manager of Manchester United and I am one of them. But it is not something we’ve talked about, they’ll do a process now for the next six months.

‘I didn’t think twice when they called me to sign me as a player and this is more of an honour and privilege to be helping the club for a few months.

‘It’s until the summer now, five or six months to just help out in the meantime while the club does the process to get the next manager.’

‘I will have an input but the job is to get to know the players and observe them,’ he added. ‘I’ve seen more or less every game from Norway. The club have got their targets but I’ve not sat down and talked about that.’

Solskjaer’s main task will be to close the 11-point gap between United and the top-four as he tries to secure Champions League qualification in the second half of the season.

‘This club has made up many, many points before but I’m not going to set that target now,’ he said.

‘I think the first thing is the first game; think about getting my principles into the boys, get the players to understand how I want them to play, and let’s take the results later and see how many points we can gather.’
