late-ojb-jezreel-and-his-wife-mabelThe first wife of late music producer, OJB Jezreel, Mabel Babatunde Okungbowa is finally speaking up about the tragic and untimely demise of her husband.

She spoke in an interview with The NET yesterday, Mama J as she is fondly called revealed that his death was so sudden and opened up about how she had been by his side all through before he passed away.

According to her, OJB  had been having the normal signs of his kidney disease that morning but this time he was in a lot of pains.

It wasn’t really dramatic, it was just the normal signs we see when he’s about going for his dialysis but this time he was in a lot of pains and I was by his side all through.

“His death is all so sudden because we were still speaking about plans for his 50th birthday over the weekend” she added.

In 2013, Mabel saved her husband’s life after he was diagnosed with kidney infection by donating one of her kidneys to him. Later that year, OJB had a successful transplant in India and despite his death, Mabel stated during the interview that she is glad she made that decision three years ago. “I don’t regret it, I did it because I wanted to. I wasn’t forced to do it.

“I don’t regret it, I did it because I wanted to. I wasn’t forced to do it. After all, he’s my husband, so I don’t regret it” she said.

Sources claim that OJB didn’t want to go public after his kidney failed last week. He reportedly had plans to sell his Surulere residence for N50 million today to gather more money so he could go for another surgery that would cost close to $150,000.

OJB will be remembered for being the mastermind behind a number of hit songs including 2Face Idibia’s African Queen.
