NPFL Expells Giwa FC from Premier League

The Nigeria Football Professional League (NPFL) has expelled Plateau based Giwa FC after it failed to turn out for a third game yesterday in Ilorin, Vanguard writes.

The Chris Giwa owned side failed to honour their fixture with Enyimba yesterday afternoon in Ilorin; bringing the number of matches they’ve missed this season to three, and according to NPFL Statutes, any club that fails to honour a total of three fixtures in a season risks expulsion from the competition.

Bauchi based Wikki Tourists and Akwa United had walked over Giwa FC in Ilorin, where the clubs was banished to following crowd trouble during a game against Enugu Rangers at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.

Last week, the League Management Company (LMC) in a letter, cautioned Giwa about a possible expulsion from the league, citing Rule 13.28 which states that: “If a club fails to honour three matches cumulatively within the league season without acceptable reason to the LMC, such a club shall be expelled from the League and its matches, played and not played shall be cancelled”.

The Jos Elephants are said to have made a plea to honour their Matchday 18 game against Enyimba, but with an improbable demand that the game be rescheduled despite the People’s Elephant already waiting for them in Ilorin.

A statement from the club on Wednesday afternoon showed that they are keen to remain in the league while asking for the LMC to review the peculiar circumstances that led to their predicament.
