Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Goes to Court over Alleged Missing N30 trillion

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Goes to CourtDr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former Finance Minister has denied being served any court processes in relation to the allegation by former CBN Governor, Professor Charles Soludo that 30 trillion Naira was unaccounted for during the past administration.

This emanated from a suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project (SERAP) pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act,according to reports from Channels.

The suit is said to have followed revelations by former Central Bank Governor Soludo, that at least N30 trillion “has either been stolen or unaccounted for, or grossly mismanaged over the last few years under the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s watch.”

In a statement issued by Okonjo-Iweala’s Media Adviser, Mr. Paul Nwabuikwu, the former minister instructed her lawyers to take steps to set aside the judgment as it affects her.

The statement also decried what it called “SERAP’s dubious motives and its role as a tool for politically motivated actors”, seeing as it founded its case on Prof Soludo’s claims.

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had ordered Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Federal Government to provide information on the spending of the alleged missing N30 trillion, which it claimed represents some accruable income to the Federal Government during the last four years of the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Buba following a Freedom of Information suit brought by SERAP.
