My Mission is to raise Plateau State IGR – Hon. Musa Sule, Commissioner of Commerce & Industry

The newly appointed Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Musa Sule Haruna has said that his mission is to ensure that Plateau State no longer depends on monthly allocation from the Federation Account by raising the State Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) to a level that would make the state self-sustainable.

Responding to questions from journalists after his inauguration by Governor Caleb Mutfwang at Langsfield Event Centre Rayfield Jos on Friday, Hon. Musa hinted that the ministry would achieve this feat by transforming the resources of the state into commercially viable enterprises for economic development with key objectives of ensuring optimum utilization of resources through industrialization.

“If you look at states like Lagos, Rivers and others, they don’t depend on monthly allocation from the Federation Account for survival.

“Recall there was a time Lagos state was denied allocation from the Federation Account for 13 months but the state still survived because of the level of industrialization which has boosted its IGR.

“It is against this backdrop that we intend to drive our economy through the commercialization of resources and to encourage the private sector participation in government initiative projects.

“The ministry would advice the Government to revive some of the industries and companies own by it like BARC Farm,  JIB and many others.

“We would also encourage foreign partnership and investment as well as facilitating the establishment, registration and supervision of business organizations all in a bid to boost our IGR”.

The Hon. Commissioner added that the ministry would equally ensure the provision of facilities to market traders as well as promoting the image of Plateau as a viable business destination.

Hon. Sule also decried the way and manner the immediate past APC government ran the state leaving behind a debt profile of over N300billion with nothing to show for it despite the bail out and the Paris Club refund.

In this regard, he called for the cooperation, understanding and prayers of the people to ensure the success of the Mutfwang Administration.
