LeBronCleveland Cavaliers, LeBron James’ hometown club has set out to keep James as he’s penned a mammoth three-year extension to his current deal.

His new $100m contract, two years after returning to the Cavs and less than two months after inspiring them to a dramatic first NBA championship, came as no surprise as the player has made no secret of his desire to remain in Ohio, Daily Mail reports.

“I’m re-signing back with the Cleveland Cavaliers, my hometown team,” James said in a video posted on sports news website Uninterrupted.

“I can’t be more excited than this opportunity once again, man, to defend our crown, defend our title.

“We all know last year as a magical, inspiring, all the words you can come up with, it was an unbelievable season. I just can’t wait to get the group back together.”

The new three-year deal will see the four-time NBA MVP earn a staggering $31 million next season, which would make him the highest paid player in the division, with his salary set to reach $33 million in the 2017-18 season.

James had previously won two championships for the Miami Heat before returning to the Cavaliers in 2014, leading them to the NBA finals where they lost to the Golden State Warriors.

The Cavs however reversed the result last season, sensationally overturning a 3-1 final deficit against Steve Curry and the Golden State Warriors getting their sweet revenge.
