Kano Police arraign 5 Suspects over Bridget Agbahime’s Killing

Kano police has today, Friday, arraigned five people over the killing of 76-year -old Christian woman, Bridget Agbahime, by a mob at the Kofar Wambai Market on the allegation of blasphemy.

Mrs Bridget Agbahime was  a trader of plastic wares who was accused by a mob of blaspheming against the Prophet Mohammed and clubbed to death by an angry mob.

President Muhmmadu Buhari and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano have condemned the attack, vowing to bring the culprits to justice.

The police in Kano arraigned Dauda Ahmad, Abdullahi Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi before a Chief Magistrate Court on a four-count charge according to a report on Premium Times.

The suspects were charged with incitement, culpable homicide and mischief, based on sections 144, 80, 51 and 327 of the penal code.

The police identified Dauda Ahmad, as the prime suspect. According to the police, he led others to attack and hack  Agbahime to death.

If found guilty, Mr. Ahmad could face the death penalty.

He explained that after Ahmad shouted Allahu Akbar, Abdullahi Mustapha, Zubairu Abubakar joined him, while others at large, including Salawiyu, Ibrahim, Dini, Isiyaku Mada, Mallam Sani and Yunusa Sufi, also accompanied them to Mrs. Agbahime’s shop located on the first floor, where they beat her with sticks causing serious injuries that led to her death.

Two of the suspects pleaded not guilty to the four charges.

Abdullahi Mustapha and Zubairu Abubakar said they were not even at the scene of the incident.

The Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibrin adjourned the case to June 28 to allow police complete investigations
