At least 40 people have been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) in Kano as Nigeria’s Secret Police stormed BDC operators in the Northern commercial capital.
The arrest occurred at the famous Wapa Bureau De Change (BDC) in Fagge area of the city.
A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrests, saying that those arrested were touts responsible for the hike in exchange rate.
The source close to the Department of State Security said the arrests happened on Friday morning as the culprits had been warned against their acts.
Alhaji Abdulhamid Kabir, the Auditor General of Al Amanat Association of Bureau de Change, who confirmed the arrests, disclosed that his members were amongst those arrested.
He said, “The DSS had a meeting with us earlier in the month and notified us of the need to control the exchange rate.
“Some of us have started adjusting the prices and the price rose again which made our people hike the prices.”
