Johanna Konta moves into second round at the French Open

British number one Johanna Konta has won for the first time, her first round match in the French Open.

Konta, who won qualifying matches at Roland Garros in 2013 and 2014, said her defeats at the main-draw had not been playing on her mind.

The 26th seed, won 6-4 6-4 against German world number 147 Antonia Lottner.

She had lost her four previous first-round matches at Roland Garros.

Konta took her first match point when Lottner could not return a backhand, setting up a second-round match against American Lauren Davis.

The former Wimbledon semi-finalist is the first Briton to qualify at Roland Garros.

The other Brit in the competition will see men’s number one Kyle Edmund meet France’s Jeremy Chardy later today.
