Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Niki Tobi dies

Justice Niki Tobi, One of the most famous justices of Nigeria’s Supreme Court has died according to a report via Sahara Reporters.

The New York-based news website stated that Justice Tobi passed on in the early hours of Friday at the National Hospital, Abuja. His body was later moved to the morgue of Harkin General Hospital.

The website said the retired judge has been dealing with serious health concerns since 2011. He was reported to have gone blind and completely lost his memory.

Justice Nikki Tobi was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2002 and retired in July 2010 after attaining the age of 70.

Born July 14, 1940, in Esanma in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, Tobi was an academic before his career on the bench. As an academic, he was variously the Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Maiduguri and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services) of the same institution.
