Former Governor’s ADC and Family Die in Fire Outbreak

The aide-de-Camp to former Governor of Plateau State,Fidelis Tapgun, Retired ASP Anthony Kwame, was on Monday morning killed in a fire that gutted his residence in Jenta-Adamu, in Jos, Plateau State capital.

The retired ASP was killed along with his two daughters, Theresa and Kerry, and son, Emmanuel. They were burnt beyond recognition in the fire inferno which reportedly broke out in the wee hours of the morning.

Spokesman of the Plateau Police Command, Mr Terna Tyopev confirmed the news as he told News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that Kwame’s wife, Charity and his other daughter, Evelyn, came out alive but sustained severe burns.

“The deceased were burnt to ashes; what were taken to the mortuary of Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos were just the skeletons,’’ Tyopev said, before adding that the two survivors were currently on admission at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos.

The District Head of Jenta-Adamu, Mr Kabala Bako, whose residence shares a fence with that of the deceased, said they tried to put out the fire to no avail.

“When Ì rushed out, I called out other neighbours and we tried to put out the fire, but it had already engulfed the entire house and there was nothing we could do about it,” he said.

“But we succeeded in making sure that that not so many houses in our area were affected.

“In spite of our efforts, some adjacent houses were affected but no life was lost there.”
