FIRS Seal off Senator George Akume’s Hotel

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has sealed off the Haf Haven Hotel, located at No 24 Atiku Abubakar Way, Makurdi, belonging to a former governor of Benue State and a serving Senator, Senator George Akume, and his wife, Regina, over unpaid taxes.

Punch reports that the FIRS enforcement team, led by Chinazor Edeh, said the hotel had refused to remit Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax and Company Income Tax to the federal government since 2011.

The management of the hotel was on Thursday given 30 minutes to make the payment before the warrant to seal the premises was executed.

The hotel, according to the FIRS team, is owing about N13,518,493.00 unpaid tax liabilities.
