How Fire Gutted 3 Year Old Twins in Ogun

Twins Taiwo and Kehinde Oluwasegun were burnt to death after their parents’ house in Magboro, Ogun State was gutted by fire, Punch reports.

The tragic incident which took the lives of the 3 year olds occurred around 8pm on Tuesday, when Iyanu, the first child of the family, tripped over a jerrycan of fuel spilling the content on the floor of the living room as the family prepared for dinner.

Neigbours who were quick to rescue the parents, Iyanu and another child, Korede after fire gutted the house triggered by part of the fuel coming in contact with a lantern in the house could not help the twins as they did not make it out and were burnt to death in the fire.

While narrating the incident to newsmen, Korede who survived with only burns on his leg and is receiving treatment at Perfect Joy Hospital alongside other family members recounted the incident to PUNCH Metro.

Apparently, his father, Aina, was about taking their generator outside when his sister tripped and spilled the petrol.

“My daddy has two generators. We use the big one to pump water, while the small one is for the house.”

“My daddy had put the small one in the room to pour petrol into it before taking it to the cage that was outside. My mummy was preparing food in the kitchen that time,” he noted

“My sister, who didn’t know there was a jerrycan on the floor, tripped over it. My mum then took the mop to clean spilled petrol. She was doing that when the fire started. There were six of us in the house: my dad and mum, my sister, the twins and me.”

Men of the fire service were not called to the scene of the tragic incident as there is no motorable road in the community. The family was transported to the hospital on bikes. The case is yet to be reported to the police also.
