Major-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS).

General Ihejirika’s arrest has been expected as the probe into the diversion of funds meant for the battle against Boko Haram saw the arrest of some of his former colleagues.

The former COAS, who at a time led the fight against the terrorists, was arrested yesterday at his home in the highbrow Maitama district of Nigeria’s federal capital, Abuja.

The probe that most likely led to his arrest, centres around the money allegedly misallocated by the former defence minister, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

The General who dismissed allegations that he was a Boko Haram sponsor, when he was still in service, as baseless, is reportedly still in DSS custody.
