The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed that its investigations into corruption has led to the recovery of several properties and cash, including a $18 million property with a bulletproof gym belonging to Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources.

The house furnishing is said to be worth $2 million while several expensive jewelry were recovered from the ex-minister.

In an interview with Aljazeera, the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, said the commission has been able to arrest several heavyweights that were before now untouchable.

“We have been able to take on a lot of big shots that were hitherto were untouchable in the three arms of the military, political class. We have recorded 164 convictions in just one year.”

Asked if the anti-corruption war was politically motivated, the EFCC boss said, “No, not my EFCC, not the EFCC of today. We are not politicized. If there is an allegation against anybody, we will go after them.”
