Dangote Tomato to Resume Production in February

Dangote Tomato is set to Resume Production following a prolonged shutdown occasioned by scarcity of raw materials.

Dangote Tomato is set to resume production in February after the tomato paste producer was forced to suspend production in May 2016, only 3 months after it started operations as a pest invasion – Tuta Absoluta – affected harvests.

Mr Abdulkadir Kaita, Managing director of the factory, told newsmen that plans to resume production in February had reached an advanced stage.

According to Punch, Kaita to have said, “We expect that tomato farmers would have produced enough for the company to process, hence our decision to resume production in February.”

He explained that tomato farmers in five states who supplied Dangote Tomato were affected by the pest invasion in 2016 and the company had no choice but to stop production.

Kaita disclosed that the company which has the capacity to produce 40 trucks or 1,200 tonnes of tomato on a daily basis, would be hiring more hands when it reopened.
