Court dock Man who shot Daughter’s Lover in Calabar

A man, Godwin Elewana has been remanded by the High Court sitting in Calabar on charges of murdering his daughter’s lover, 22-year-old Douglas Ojugbo.

Godwin Elewana who resides within the precinct of the Cross River Basin Development Authority in Eight Miles, was docked for the crime purportedly committed on March 10, 2015, Punch writes.

according to Police investigations, Elewana shot his daughter’s lover, Douglas, in the arm and leg and allowed him to bleed to death before bundling him into his car and depositing the corpse at the Federal Housing Police Station in Calabar.

During Friday’s hearing at Cross River State High Court 8, Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Amaja Eneji, told the court that the licence of the double-barrelled gun used in ending Ojugbo’s life had since expired in 2013.

He stated that no civilian has the right to take away the life of another citizen, as he prayed the court for prompt delivery of justice.

The Defence Counsel, Mr. Clement Ukaegbu, told the court that the wife of the accused had filed for an out-of-court settlement.

Meanwhile, presiding Judge, Justice Ukpa Ebitam, adjourned the case to February 27 for further hearing and cross examination of the evidence, stating that the matter was a murder case and should not be allowed to proceed beyond two weeks.

Mother of the deceased, Mrs. Maria Ojugbo, who described her late son as cheerful, said that her family is seeking for justice for their late son.
