Code of Conduct Orders Arrest of Sen. Bukola Saraki

The Code of Conduct Tribunal has ordered the arrest of Sen. Bukola Saraki the Senate President of Nigeria.

The bench warrant for the arrest of Saraki, was issued at the resumption of hearing of the case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The prosecuting lawyer, Muslim Hassan, had before the recess, sought the bench warrant, over the refusal of Saraki, to appear at the trial.

Justice Danladi Umar of the Code of Conduct Tribunal gave the order on Friday, September 18. Senator Bukola Saraki is the leader of the 8th National Assembly but unlike his colleagues at the executive does not have immunity.

Saraki, who was supposed to appear before the court this morning over allegations of false assets declaration, sent his team of lawyers to serve the tribunal with a copy of the ruling of Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, yesterday, which summoned the Ministry of Justice to appear on Monday to show cause why the trial should be allowed to proceed.

Equally summoned by the court were the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar and that of the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, Mr. Sam Saba, as well as Mr. Hassan who signed the charge against Saraki.
