Bye-Election: Plateau REC Visits CP, Seeking Adequate Security

Dr Oliver Agundu, Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner, paid a visit to State Police Commissioner Okoro J. Alawari on Tuesday as part of measures to ensure appropriate security before, during, and after the state’s upcoming bye-elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled elections for February 3rd.

The state’s elections are for the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency and the Plateau North Senatorial position, following the nullification of the elections of Musa Agah, a member of the House of Representatives representing the constituency, and Simon Mwadkwon, a Senator representing the Plateau North Senatorial District.

The REC, along with the management team, raised certain security concerns, including potential threats to the electoral process, probable acts of violence, and the necessity for robust security measures before, during, and after the election.

Responding, the police commissioner informed the INEC delegation that the command is committed to ensuring a safe and secure polling process.

The police commissioner, on the other hand, underlined the significance of maintaining peace and order during the polls, noting that the police will do everything possible to ensure a smooth operation, while also urging people of the state to be calm and law-abiding.
