ASUU embarks on Indefinite Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is back in the news as the union has ordered its members across the nation to commence an indefinite strike with immediate effect.
The strike was announced after leaders of the academic union met for its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.
Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, the National President of ASUU, told reporters that the union took the decision due to the poor funding of universities in the country. He went on to direct all members of the union across various universities in the country to withdraw their services, stressing that the strike would be total and indefinite.
When contacted, the chairman of ASUU at Obafemi Awolowo University, Adeola Egbedokun, said the strike is total and indefinite until the union’s needs are met.
