Arsenal move to land Jamie Vardy from Leicester

North London side, Arsenal have continued their statement of intent in the summer transfer by activating the release clause in English and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy’s contract.

Vardy was an instrumental player as the Foxes  got to their first ever Premier League title win with 24 goals, and Goal.com reports that the Gunners have triggered the striker’s £20 million buy-out fee.

Arsene Wenger led side have long been connected with the signing of a top-rated striker given the perceived inconsistencies of Olivier Giroud plus the injury to Danny Welbeck which will have him sidelined for up to nine months.

Manager Arsene Wenger has set about getting all of his transfer business done before the start of the European Championship, in a marked departure from last summer where the club failed to sign a single outfield player.

They have already completed the signing of Swiss international Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach in a deal worth more than £30 million, and there are reports that a £750,000 bid for Bolton Wanderers centre-back Rob Holding has been rejected..
