Army Sacks #EkitiGate General Brig-General Aliyu Momoh

Nigerian Army has confirmed the compulsory retirement of Brig-General Aliyu Momoh, who was indicted by the Nigerian Army Council for his role in the alleged rigging of the 2014 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

Sani Usman, the spokesperson of the Army, told the Punch that Momoh and other senior officers have been retired.

“Gen. Momoh and others have been retired from the Army”, he was quoted as saying without given further detail.

The newspaper also learned that the former spokesperson of the army, Brig-General Olajide Laleye and other officers were also retired.

According to thr Newspaper, the retirement of the senior officers is in connection with the recommendations of the panel set up by the Army authorities to look into allegations of professional misconduct against military personnel in the conduct of the June 14, 2014, governorship poll in Ekiti State and the 2015 general elections.

The panel also indicted some officers for their role in the Ekiti and Osun election. An officer of the Nigerian Army, Capt. Sagir Koli, who participated in the supervision of the poll, had leaked an audio recording of a meeting, featuring Fayose, Momoh, former Minister of State for Defence, Musliu Obanikoro; former Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Jelili Adesiyan; and the PDP governorship candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, among others, where the alleged rigging was hatched.

The individuals had stridently denied the rigging allegations before the audio recording surfaced.
