Angela Merkel Sits Above Theresa May In World’s Most Powerful Women List (See Top 10)

The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has topped Forbes’s list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women for the 8th consecutive year.

The US business magazine on Tuesday released its annual list of influential women in politics, business and other categories.

British Prime Minister Theresa May came in 2nd, followed by International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde.

“Those women are leading amidst a tumultuous time where geopolitical tensions are on the rise, key economies are facing instability, and where trust in institutions is at an all-time low,” says Forbes.

First daughter and senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump made the list for the second time as she came in at number 24, just one place behind Queen Elizabeth II.

“The first daughter and advisor to President Trump has become the de facto First Lady as her step-mother Melania prefers to avoid the limelight,” Forbes wrote as Melania was nowhere to be seen on the list.

For the first time, Forbes’ list also includes siblings: Anne and Susan Wojcicki, of 23andMe and YouTube, respectively.

Noticeably absent from this year’s ranking was Hillary Clinton, who did not make the list for the first time since its inception in 2004.

In total, Forbes calculated that the women included on this year’s list control or influence nearly $2 trillion in revenues and oversee 5 million employees.

“Members of the 2018 Most Powerful Women list represent women in six categories: business (27 honorees), technology (18), finance (12), media & entertainment (16), politics & policy (22), and philanthropy (5). In total, the Power Women control or influence nearly $2 trillion in revenues and oversee 5 million employees,” Forbes reveals.
